2017 Fall General Membership Meeting and Brunch Minutes

    November 1, 2017

The WGA Social League held a Fall Brunch and General Membership meeting November 1, 2017 at the Diamante club.  The event began at 9:30 a.m. for social time, and at 10:00, President Mary Cupstid welcomed attendees to the event.

Ellie Little introduced long-time member Donnie Farmer who presented the history of the Social League from 1997 when a group of women played casual golf together, until 2000 when the POA allowed the group of approximately 263 women to form an officially recognized league as a sub-league of the WGA.  Ellie also introduced Gretchen Hewitt who provided entertainment by singing golf-themed songs.  In addition, Betty Zimmerman was recognized as a retiring long-time member.

The General Business Meeting was convened and the following business was conducted:

    1. Jackie Carbine read the minutes of the Spring Luncheon and General Business Meeting held March 22, 2017.

    2. Belinda Gemme presented a report of the treasury and mentioned proceeds from Crush Cancer events.  The Social League contributed $1,410 from our fund raiser events.  We also participated with the WGA in the golf sale which brought $7,758.

    3. Norma Shorts reported that we have 132 members in the Social League at this time.   Members should review their name record on the website roster and submit any changes.  There was a discussion about placing applications for membership in course club houses and Social League members soliciting new members for 2018.

    4. Marcy Hellman discussed Pairings results.  The number of players during 2017 averaged 42 per over 29 play days (not counting the first week due to cold weather).  She reminded members that to request playing with a specific person, both members must sign up naming the other person.  To become acquainted with more people, Marcy suggests that we vary our requests for an individual time block.

    5. Donna Wetzel presented the totals of birdies, chip-ins, pars, and low puts, and discussed the publicity items which appeared in the Village Voice.

    6. Ellie Little discussed the opportunities for participation in 2018 Crush Cancer.  More volunteers are needed to assist with the golf sale, such as picking up and delivering donations, making solicitations from area businesses, and donating usable golf-related goods for the sale.

    7. Carole Dubbelde discussed the Junior Golf program. There were 175 Junior participants this year and 5 scholarships were awarded.  We are encouraged to volunteer with the Junior Golf program.

Mary Cupstid discussed the following New Business topics:

    1. In 2018 the WGA Crush Cancer Sale will be refocused as a Village-level Crush Cancer Sale encompassing WGA, SL, MGA, and other golf groups.

    2. 2018 Social League Dates:
The Newcomers Coffee will be held in February.
March 28th is the tentative date for the WGA Spring Luncheon meeting.

April 4th is the first play day for the Social League.

    3. Social League dues will increase to $15, which will be used to help with purchases for items such as door prizes, event expenses, and software, as allowed by the Bylaws.  This dues increase was agreed upon by the general membership with Gail Graber providing the motion and Marci Knighten the second motion, and with ‘yes’ agreements from the membership.

    4. The Social League Bylaws will be reviewed by a sub-committee of the Board of Directors.  If any changes are needed, they will be presented at a General Membership meeting for approval.

    5. Couples play days will be held in April and September.  Fund raising events will be available with proceeds going for Crush Cancer donations; therefore, proceeds will be kept separate from the general treasury.

    6. Election of Officers for 2018:
